Engaged in the fight against poverty and economic dependence of women through an innovative project for the empowerment and employability of vulnerable women
In Uvira, the Association of Working Children and Young People of the DRC (AWCY-RDC) is actively engaged in the fight against poverty and economic dependence of women through an innovative project for the empowerment and employability of vulnerable women.
Aware of the socio-economic challenges faced by many women in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the AWCY-DRC has set up a professional training program focused on cutting and sewing. This initiative aims to equip participants with practical skills enabling them to generate income and strengthen their financial independence.
Thanks to the support of various partners, 50 vulnerable women have already benefited from this training in Uvira. Beyond technical learning, these women also acquired notions of management, entrepreneurship and work organization, allowing them to launch their own income-generating activities.
Today, several of them work as independent seamstresses or have joined local workshops, thus contributing to the economic development of their communities. This project represents a real lever for social transformation, restoring hope and dignity to women who have long been marginalized.
Through this initiative, the AWCY-DRC reaffirms its commitment to promoting the empowerment of women as an essential pillar of sustainable and inclusive development in Uvira.
